SWAZIS CAN’T ESCAPE THE TRUTH

I was watching the coverage of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on BBC [British Broadcasting Corporation] television today (Friday 8 August 2008) when the small contingent of athletes from Swaziland came into the arena.

Here come the team from Swaziland, the BBC commentator said, ‘one of the last remaining absolute monarchies in the world’.

And that was all he said before he turned his attention to the nation following the Swazis.

So there you have it. The only thing the international community knows about Swaziland is that it isn’t a democracy and it is ruled by an absolute monarchy.

You can make all the excuses you like about Swaziland’s forthcoming elections, but some people know the truth.

Or to put it in the spirit of the Olympic Games – ‘you can run but you cannot hide’.
