Swaziland’s paramilitary force, the Operation Support Services Unit (OSSU), has received weapons from Israel, according to a Swazi opposition group.
Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN) said in a statement yesterday (1 December 2011) that OSSU had been undergoing training this week ‘for a physical war against its own citizens’.
SSN said, ‘Our sources have revealed that despite the prevailing economic crisis in the kingdom, a consignment of weapons for the police was received recently’.
It added ‘police paramilitary troopers are covertly training at a base in Ngonini’. The training began yesterday.
Today, SSN reported its sources revealed the arms came from Israel.
‘The arms said to be very sophisticated. In particular, our sources chose to reveal that one of the rifles is an upgraded version of the R5 assault rifle, which is said to be the most effective and accurate of the lot,’ SSN said.
